On November 4,1967, the memorial for the "heroes of the anti-fascist resistance struggle"
was inaugurated in what was then the Rose Garden on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Great October
Socialist Revolution, which was celebrated on the same day with a ceremony in the town hall. The monument, made
of Bad Langensalza travertine, was created on the existing foundation of the old war memorial by the Gotha construction
business Wilhelm Landmann. The flame bowl came from Gunter Reichert's ironwork workshop in Friedrichroda. However, it has
not stood the test of time as it was dismantled in June 2011.
After this was dismantled the individual parts of the travertine monument were initially stored. The Gotha Garden, Park and Cemetery Office took on the task of creating a new monument from the existing material. The stone blocks used should show signs of secondary use. The following year, however, the new monument dedicated to the victims of the Nazi regime was created in the main cemetery from the original stones and the bowl (see below). |

On August 31, 2012 a stele for the victims of the Nazi regime was unveiled in the main cemetery.
This was a replacement for the memorial for the "heroes of the anti-fascist resistance struggle"
that was inaugurated in the Rose Garden on November 4,1967.
