Ketteler Monument, Muenster

Location: Side path in the southwestern part of the Muenster Castle garden

Inauguration
October 25, 1903. The Privy Councillor Dr. Bödiker from Berlin gave a speech in memory of Clemens von Ketteler.

Motif of remembrance
Remembering the diplomat Clemens von Ketteler, who was murdered in Beijing in 1900. In place of the simple monument,
the committee originally wanted to erect a monumental tomb in memory of the baron, as he was considered a "martyr" of
German colonial policy. The monument was intended to stylize Ketteler as a symbol of the just striving world power.
The obelisk is referred to as a "National Monument".
